Yes, folks, I was off today, and they called it around 2pm for tomorrow. That's a FULL extra week of break. Which is awesome!

It's also weird! I didn't have anything planned, and the snow made going anywhere impossible, which isn't a problem by itself. But I just sort of feel like I'm in some weird time bubble. There was already a sense of strangeness about the holidays this year, and now I'm in this long liminal thing... I know, cognitively, what day it is, but I don't have any feeling of time, if that makes sense.

It doesn't help that I know the kiddos will be freaking insane after the extra long break. They are not as bad as the crew last year, but gawd, they can be tiresome at times. Ah, well, I have three more days to chill, anyway.

Given the kinds of kids I taught- severely disabled and/or terminally ills kids- they were always glad to get back to the place they felt was normality and to someone who saw them as her kids.

I don't miss teaching since retirement but I DO miss my kids! :o)

I originally trained to teach English but soon realised that special needs was where I really wanted to be- I wanted to teach kids, not a subject. Obviously my own life experience had an influence on that!

Things I need to remember:
• Asking for help is not, as it turns out, fatal.
• Laughing is easier than pulling your hair out, and doesn't have the unfortunate side effect of making you look like a plague victim.
• Even the biggest tasks can be defeated if taken a bit at a time.
• I can write a paper the night before it's due, but the results are not all they could be.
• Be thorough, but focused.
• Trust yourself.
• Honesty, always.
