Between the DDoS issues, and the insane mess that has taken over my comment pages I am pretty over LJ just now. The DDoS is not quite their fault, though - really? Security much? At all, maybe? But the comment thing has me really ticked.

As always LJ tossed out a zillion new 'features' which show up all over my comment pages. I don't have these things enabled, mind you, but I still can't opt out of having them show up. My choices are nearly a dozen radio-buttoned options I don't want, or, if I want to re-work my layout from ground up, I can reduce this mess to a drop-down menu of crap I don't want.

And LJ just does NOT get that I should be able to turn off the option to comment via Facebook, or some god-forsaken Russian Gmail clone altogether - why should they even be in a drop-down menu if I don't have them turned on? This mindset LJ had of cramming crap down users throats whether they want it or not it REALLY getting annoying. And now games? Haven't looked, don't want to know; but I bet they will find a way to shove it in front of me whether I want it or not; they always do.

So, look for posts from here more often, at least for a while...

My loyalty to LJ is immense, but I'm starting to get very pissed off with them. So far, browsing around on DW, it seems like a very clean and neat and tidy site, so I'll give it a try and see how I get on.

Same username over there.

I agree with you and may end up doing the same. Did you experience the inability to access LJ yesterday? It happened repeatedly to me and for no apparent reason. My hubby is a computer geek and said that there was nothing wrong with our internet service, computers, or anything else that he could find. This is happening more frequently too and it ticks me off. Thank the Gods for W.O.W. or I would have been a much fouler mood.

LJ seems to be under more or less constant DDoS attack at the moment - it's been down for much of today as well, and when it was up, it's been glacially slow.

I was never that concerned about it before, but given the site's Russian owners and the clear displeasure the Russian authorities have over certain people using it to highlight corruption, I want to use a site that's less controversial and much less likely to be bombarded with hostility.

And DW seems like a nice place, thus far.

I like the sound of a war-free atmosphere. I'm just not sure if I will like DW enough to switch. But I'm going to try it anyway.

I suspect DW might not be problem-free forever, but for now it's a nice place by the looks of things, and the way they manage various aspects of the site seems good. I suspect they'll get a flood of people from LJ which might affect things a bit, but we'll see.

I now have an account with DW as Ivyandstarlight. Add me to your subscription if you get or have a DW. ^ ^

I totally just made a new account at DW. It's pretty and just as easy to post with as my LJ account. I think to have more options I would have to upgrade. But I'm good right now. I like it so far. If you have an account or decide to get one, subscribe to mine and I'll do the same for you.

Whoa! That product pushing smacks of poor taste on the part of the LJ admins. Is your account paid or free? I have less options, and or crap, because my account is a free one. I wonder if that makes a difference. What does DW offer? Journal styles? Having options is a must. I don't have tattoos for the simple reason that I change my mind too easily to commit to one. Therefore, why should my journal style be any different? What about cute Emoticons? My cute little kitties are important to my on-line persona and I would hate to give them up. They make me smile. Freedom of layout? I would like to be able to create and or purchase a pre-done layout that is, more or less, uniquely mine. LJ won't let me do that without "buying in." How about Communities of interest? Also, does DW offer free accounts for first time users? I like to test a new site before committing to it in earnest. Let me know.

I would be happy to send you an invite code - (I have a weird feeling I typed this already; maybe LJ ate it...) if you'd like to check out DW.... Let me know! :)

Shoot me the invite. I will try it and if I like it I might make it a secondary journal. You see, I cannot entirely abandon LJ in good conscience right now b/c of the political nature of these attacks. If those Facists won b/c I and others left LJ for greener pastures based on their attempts at squelching free thought I would feel bad.

I just mapped out a new space at DW. Check it out! It's not much, but I'm happy with it so far! ^ ^

I haven't been getting the new features crammed at me. Somehow I lucked out of having many of these things put in my face too much. Maybe because my account is SO OLD?? I don't know.

However, periodically, even I get fed up with their nonsense, so... yeah.

Well, at present, THIS is what my comment page looks like:

They have added another one since I made this post, believe it or not! What the heck IS half this stuff? Vkontakte???? Mail.Ru??? Shouldn't I have the option to hide that since I'm, I don't know, NOT IN RUSSIA?! (Mind you I have all of these "connect" features disabled under my account, but there they are!)

They really don't understand what retains people. I mean, you know what LJ users will actually appreciate? Not crossposting from Facebook or Twitter. Not games. Even if all of those things were opt-in and included reasonable privacy protections, they're not what I've seen members get excited about.

What people dig, in my experience, are icons. Give everybody 30 icons for free and a lot of people will think twice about switching to DW. As it is, though? There's not really too much here aside from the communities which haven't set up shop on DW (yet), and they keep fixing things which aren't problems and which won't get members back in love with LJ.

You know, it's really very simple, but you're right, they just don't get it.

I mean, I have a permanent account, and I'm getting fed up. If I was still paying regularly, I'd have been out a long time ago! Augh, just whatever, LJ!

I'm permanent too, and part of my loyalty comes from that, but LJ seems to be losing people fast, and it's making me think that perhaps it's time to see about going, or at least getting settled in on DW, and having things run on two sites.

LJ rapidly seems to be becoming a laughing stock, and every attempt they make to add new things just alienates people. I've been here nearly seven years - perhaps it's time to move on.
