Today is Mom's memorial. I desperately don't want to go. Not because it will be hard (it will, though) but because it will be over. I suppose I am in a classic sort of denial after all.
Miscellanea
Things I need to remember:
• Asking for help is not, as it turns out, fatal.
• Laughing is easier than pulling your hair out, and doesn't have the unfortunate side effect of making you look like a plague victim.
• Even the biggest tasks can be defeated if taken a bit at a time.
• I can write a paper the night before it's due, but the results are not all they could be.
• Be thorough, but focused.
• Trust yourself.
• Honesty, always.

Date: January 31st, 2011 05:14 pm (UTC)The Lakota folk have a traditional ceremony, "The keeping of the Soul".. sort of an extended period of remembrance (as opposed to mourning) that lasted for a year, then concluded with another ceremony. They seem to be on to something. For the year after Mother passed, I wore a medicine pouch with a bit of her ashes and a lock of her hair, and it did seem to help with my process. It seems to be gentler with most western "getitoverwithmoveongetonwithyourlife" approaches.
