The institution of the church ITSELF is collectively to blame for the mandated and long-time policy of moving and shielding of abusive priests (and nuns-- with physical, not just sexual abuse) from proper consequences for their actions. Yes, the abusers must be blamed, but SO MUST THE CATHOLIC CHURCH for its ducking of its share of the blame.

As far as squandering of settlement money. Once the money is handed over it can be "squandered" any way they like. They could burn it if they wanted to. Doesn't mean the settlement should not have been given.

If the Catholic Church is destroyed by this, it has only itself to blame, same as any corrupt government or institution. And that IS the central issue here-- institutionalized corruption that allowed the guilty to not only NOT be punished, but to CONTINUE abusing, over and over again-- because the Church deemed its reputation and its precious priests to be worth MORE than the children placed in its care. I have no sympathy for that. Why should anyone?

Things I need to remember:
• Asking for help is not, as it turns out, fatal.
• Laughing is easier than pulling your hair out, and doesn't have the unfortunate side effect of making you look like a plague victim.
• Even the biggest tasks can be defeated if taken a bit at a time.
• I can write a paper the night before it's due, but the results are not all they could be.
• Be thorough, but focused.
• Trust yourself.
• Honesty, always.
