Welcome and onto the steppes...

Back at it today, though yesterday was a weird schedule - we were on a 2-hour delay. Zthe kids are not quite as feral as I expected, which is nice! Then again, we aren't out of the woods - we have the looming threat of NTI (online learning) at some point this week, and another storm possibly around the end of the month.

There are several new folks here, and please let me say WELCOME! I know I have not gotten to respond to all of you in person yet (I pretty much got home from school and was out cold by 6-ish?), but I will, and I am SO glad you're here!

This week we started on the Mongols. It's a fun unit to teach, and it leads nicely into our upcoming coverage of medieval China. Of course, I had to introduce the kiddos to the Mongolian metal band, The Hu. If you haven't ever seen them, check them out below!

Well, I will definitely take any excuse to listen to Yuve Yuve Yu again!

Glad to hear easing back into classes wasn't too difficult. Maybe the 2-hour delay helped ease things in?

The ones that simply refuse to find anything interesting that is even distantly associated with 'school' or 'learning' were predictably unimpressed (seriously, they are some of the most dedicated souls I have ever encountered, sadly their dedication is put solely towards finding contempt with simply everything...ah middle school!) The rest got a big kick out of it, and a few were busy looking up more. (Then again, these are the same ones who were begging for more 2Cellos covers of stuff like AD/DC, so there's that....). One of these days I may bust out some Sabaton....

Ahhhh, the double middle finger that’s the prerogative of some middle schoolers everywhere … when one is just TOO cool for this world. :)

I wish any of MY teachers would have played us The Hu (or brought out 2Cellos). I think the coolest thing my (Catholic!) school ever got up to was reading “Krabat” (think it’s known in English as ‘The Satanic Mill’?) - m almost risqué, if viewed with today’s narrow-eyed mindset. It was also quite formative for me in 8th grade :) So, praise unto cool teachers!

LOL Thank you, I try. I am sure the kiddos might not say so, but I'm not losing sleep over that. I also get a HUGE kick out of responding to their game references. They are floored when they realize I actually play some of the games they do... LOL
